God Uses Everyone

God Uses Everyone

What a difference a year makes!! One year ago, I stepped away from a position of 12 years and I was in a pretty dark place. I was overpowered with sadness and grief and I was too embarrassed to share my experience with more than a handful of people.
.
If you follow me on social media, you know that I often mention that I am most grateful for what I call “My Tribe”. Mostly friends and a few family members who are my heartbeats! This group is amazing! They are smart, talented, tops in their fields, funny, generous, and really good looking! They encourage me, support me, pray for me, admonish me if need be, and accept my where I am. Their presence in my life is proof for me that God exists.
.
I haven’t always counted my family members amongst my tribe. I grew up in a home with two mentally ill, abusive parents. As a child, my friends’ families and teachers were really good to me. I had a t-shirt that said, “A Family is a Circle of Friends”. As an adult, I have gotten to know more family members (and more importantly they have gotten to know me) and y’all this year I have learned that they are amazing too! My family members are doctors, teachers, engineers, therapists, attorneys, former professional athletes, technology wizards (that’s not me), consultants…people who are making a positive impact on their communities. And this past year, when I was in the lowest valley I have ever experienced, it was my family who stepped up!! One of my cousins came to spend a weekend with me. One of my cousins opened his home to me and since we were at The University of Georgia, he literally laid out the red carpet. One of them calls me weekly to “check on me to make sure I’m ok and to tell me he loves me.” They are the sweetest messages!
.
When I was younger I had no idea that I was loved, but now I have no doubt!! I am overwhelmed with love that I didn’t even know existed for me. That’s one of the lessons I’ve learned. I am loved! For me, that’s God.
.
God Is Faithful!! Despite my doubt, God showed up for me every day. I see the hand of God in sunrises and sunsets. I see God in my neighbors and their pups. I see God in my family. I see God in my friends. I see God every Sunday in your faces too my friends. How great is our God?!!
