Alternative Giving is a unique way of holiday giving. The concept is relatively simple … make a monetary donation to an organization that you know about and believe in and ask that organization to send an acknowledgement card to your honorees … to the loved ones or work-mates on your Christmas list. It’s a lovely way to acknowledge the people in your life that you want to honor without adding to Holiday Consumption Disease. At the same time, the organization is the beneficiary of your generosity. It’s a win-win-win situation.

What is the Scattered catalog? The Scattered for Service catalog is the collection of organizations, chosen by congregation members. The catalog describes the organizations, the outreach programs, how we can support them, and how we can get involved with the organization. The finished product is not only a gift-guide but also a volunteer-guide, a prayer-guide and all-around inspirational-guide. On each page of the catalog – for each organization – there are up-to five different gifts to give. With this option in Scattered for Service, we can then often find items to give to our loved ones that are meaningful to them in their personal lives.
When you make a donation to an organization through Scattered for Service, we provide you with an acknowledgement card to give to your loved one. At Scattered, we have personalized gift cards. Each card includes a description of the organization that you’ve chosen and then is calligraphied – by calligraphy volunteers in our congregation – with the specific item that you’ve chosen and your name. You then send the cards directly to your honoree.
