Presenter: Dr. Mark Baker
Jesus is the best example of Personal Power the world has ever known. He owned nothing, only had a three-year itinerant ministry during an age with no mass media, and never wrote a book—and yet He has a dedicated following of over two billion people today. If you measure personal power by the amount of influence on other people then clearly no one has been more personally powerful in the past two thousand years. This will be Dr. Baker’s fourth trip to Westwood. You won’t want to miss it!
Plan "Be": Guided Christian Studies
Where Mercy Fails by Chris Herlinger and (our own) Paul Jeffrey is an incisive work of photo-journalism with trenchant essays that illumine the plight of displaced persons in the Darfur region of Sudan. The authors take readers inside the camps via personal narratives and through compelling images. Along the way the reader discovers a context for understanding the tragedy and how people of faith are responding.
This book study will run for three consecutive Sundays beginning September 12th at 11:15am. Costs: $20 for course materials. Participants are asked to be sure to attend every session.

Plan Be classes are short discussion-format courses that facilitate interactive study for spiritual growth and personal maturity. Courses vary in length and cost based on topic and curriculum. Plan Be meets on Sunday mornings following the worship service.

Fall Kick-Off is Here!
This Sunday, September 12, is Kick-Off Sunday. We will dedicate the newly-completed memory garden and entrance plaza in worship. It will also be our first day to use the newly-renovated classrooms, meeting spaces and music rooms in the Education Building. So much has been accomplished in the past few months – come and celebrate that You are Here.
On Sunday, September 19, Paul Jeffrey will be the guest preacher. Paul is one of Westwood’s covenant missionaries and a gifted photographer who writes about the work of the church around the world as senior correspondent for Response, the magazine of United Methodist Women. Paul also provides coverage of emergencies for Action by Churches Together (the ACT Alliance), a Geneva-based global alliance of churches responding to disasters. His work has taken him around the world and he will be sharing his experiences and photos in both Follow-Up and at a luncheon at noon that day. (The cost is $15; kids eat free.)
