Faith and action share deep connections, despite how they are often set up as if they exist in opposition. The story of Mary and Martha deserves a new look: Mary’s choice to “sit at Jesus’ feet” is better understood as bold discipleship rather than passivity. Faith is made real through action, just as action is enriched by faith. Rigid binaries—whether in theology, gender, or identity—deserve questioning, for the sake of a more inclusive and dynamic understanding of God’s work in the world. Ultimately, we are called to a faith lived out in love, justice, and active engagement, where belief and works come together in response to Christ’s call.
