This Sunday, we join with Christians around the US in an observance of a Service of Lament, Repentance, & Action against gun violence. I am grateful that we can hold space in our worship for all three of these important Christian practices: to lament the cost of gun violence in our communities and nation, to repent for our participation in systems of such violence, and to take action for a more just, safe world. A scripture reading from Luke’s gospel opens up conversation about what makes us secure–on earth and beyond. Jesus invites us to contemplate who and what we’re living in service to.
