Our scriptures include not only instructions that we should pray–Jesus also offers us specific words to use. We use these words, known to us as The Lord’s Prayer, in worship and we use them in private prayer. Across many denominational and theological divides, Christians are connected through this prayer. I think of how it has persisted, of how many people have spoken it in such varied circumstances; I imagine it like a stream of water, gradually wearing a deep channel into the landscapes of our lives. The prayer persists, and we are invited to persist in offering it as it reshapes both us and the world.
