29 Mar It’s time to wave a palm branch and welcome Jesus into Jerusalem!
Please bring your family to join together in front of the church at 9:25. You’ll each get a palm branch and we’ll process down the “parade route” to wave your branches. After the music stops, we’ll lay down our branches, and the grown-ups will sit in their pews while we have our Children’s Time.
Later, after choir & games, the children will parade through the Loft at 10:45. In our Story Time, Ms. Deanna will present the Godly Play story of following Jesus into Jerusalem. Our response to this sacred story will be to design a sandal to take home so that we remember the day and prepare for Holy Week as we learn to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
Thanks to Carol Chan for her loving assistance last Sunday as our parent volunteer! In game time we tied ourselves into knots and then played “Emotions Charades.” I was fascinated to hear one of the children say, “I can act out angry, but I don’t know how to act out lonely!” Our story of the Raising of Lazarus helped us to understand that even Jesus had big feelings.
We look forward to Easter when the Westwood Kids Choir sings in the Sanctuary and the Loft in the 11:00 services! At 10:20 the Alleluias will be unburied and we can go as families through an Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt that the Grapplers are helping to design.
So here’s the order for Easter:
- At 9:00 families may gather for worship in the Sanctuary. Each child will receive a bag of activities, and Pastor Diana will offer the Children’s Time (no children’s choir).
- At 10:00 on the courtyard we’ll have our Easter Tea Party & Brunch.
- At 10:20 we’ll gather families on the upper courtyard for the Annual Easter Scavenger Hunt!
- At 10:50 Kids’ choir will rehearsal in room 108.
- At 11:00 families may worship together in the Sanctuary or the Loft, with the Westwood Kids Choir singing and playing instruments in both: first in the sanctuary, followed by the Loft. (We hope some parents will be willing to take the Orff instruments from the Sanctuary to the Loft!)
- Children will then stay with their parents or be guided back to the sanctuary and those families.
And for the SUMMER:
The Cal-Pac Conference offers wonderful choices for children to be away from home in the atmosphere of God’s outdoors and excellent programming. One of our families has already signed up for Camp Lazy W. Church camp has helped develop the faith of thousands of children throughout the years. Take a look!
