In 1 Corinthians, Paul warns the church against division; John Wesley does the same in his teaching, clarifying that “such internal division begins when sisters and brothers in Christ, the members of his body, no longer have love ‘for one another.’” It’s love that holds the Church together, and it depends on our humility and mutuality. This Sunday, we continue our series, “Toward Love,” connecting readings from 1 Corinthians, Wesley’s teachings on “Christian perfection,” and the call of the gospel in our own time.
