Advent begins with a little apocalypse from the Gospel of Mark–naming suffering, describing the vivid signs in the sky, and a shake-up of power. Then, the arrival of Christ in glory. Startling us with drama, Advent dares us to believe that things can change. We are invited to believe that the improbable, hope-filled reign of justice and peace is possible.
