We like to throw around the metaphor of being the body of Christ, but where does all that talk go when it comes to acknowledging the very real, physical bodies of Christians? Even in our age of elevators and ADA accessibility, it’s easy to get caught up in seemingly transcendent ideals of our faith and leave our bodies behind in this earthly dust. And it’s more than just our unconscious moments of embedded ableism – we’re still regularly tempted to consciously ignore at best – and disown at worst – the very bodies that contain and sustain us. So, let’s dig into the liberating power of our scriptures and see if the Spirit offers us new wisdom on how to better embody our faith as we gather this Sunday. See you in worship!
