This Lent, our Seeking series has invited us to ask questions, to engage with curiosity, to question and wonder. This Sunday, our gospel story has Jesus pushing back against some of our questions–the questions that take us in the wrong direction. Too often, when we see disaster, our desire is to know who to blame. When we rush to judgements, we often miss deeper human need; once we’ve gotten past a helpful assessment about the things we could fix, we end up with mysteries that have no easy answers. Worse, our attempts to make sense end up twisting and limiting God’s presence in the midst of our messy, heart-breaking, beautiful world. In the midst of all that, Jesus shows up with grace.
