This Sunday, our gospel scripture tells the story of an encounter between Jesus and a Samaritan woman by a well. I love this transformative conversation, which crosses social, political, cultural, and religious boundaries. They talk about thirst, and living water; at the end of the exchange, we’re told that she leaves her water jar, and goes into her home city, to testify about Jesus. As we share the story in 2023, it opens up space to ask questions about what it is we’re thirsty for, and what it is we have to offer the world.
