This Sunday, our scripture reading tells of how Mary anointed Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume, wiping them with her hair. This act of extravagant care and devotion is more poignant as we read it in full knowledge that Holy Week is almost here; the reality of Jesus’ coming death gives a different intensity to these moments he shares in life. As we share this story, we do so knowing that we, too, live lives shaped by our own mortality and vulnerability. With full knowledge that we are fragile, we are invited to choose love.
